Message from Steve Benzie

Hi Guys

Just to let you know that Jane Buckerfield passed away last thursday evening.

We have a card that everyone is signing which we will bring on Tuesday Night.

The Funeral is at Streetly Crem at 12.00pm on Friday 10th September, and the reception
will be at the Stick & Wicket Club at 1.00pm.

To say we are all upset is an understatement.

See you soon

Steve

Club AGM has now been moved to Tuesday 28th September 2010.

Buenas Dias Aldridge Running Club

First of all, please forgive me for leaving with out saying Adios to anyone but everything happened so quick that some members of my family still don't know that I have left the country. We are enjoying looking around at many appartments and just chilling on the beach (Making the most of it before I start working here). Have made friends with the Estate Agent I am using and one of his employees, and it turns out that they are both runners. It takes a while to get used to running in this heat and I have only been doing shortish training runs. So, when my new found friends entered me into the Las Galetas Half Marathon last Sunday it came as a bit of a shock. They do this run each year for an African childrens school charity and the race is for residents only. A few runners doing a 23k jog I thought........ 650 runners on a very hilly course in blistering heat and at altitude, I felt like I had spent a month in a Japanese prisoner of war camp when I finished. Spent all evening trying to recover from dehydration, my head was all over the place an I was even throwing up without having a drink. I have lost everyones email addresses and have no pc or laptop at the momment, but will be intouch as soon as I do.

Ciao Amigos

Dale.

The reason perhaps for Mr Law going hell for leather is that he may have discovered a Mr Mark Raven doing Yeti impressions….

Sports Nutrition

I went to a talk at the Alexander Stadium on Monday evening and what came out of the evening was sports nutrition and what atheletes should and should not be eating. I have been sent this link which gives you loads of information. It is 92 pages long, however, from Page 75 onwards it gives examples of what sort of things and amounts of different foods and drinks that will help with your training. Check it out!!!! I'm sure you will find it really useful.

ARC are Going Ape - Saturday 10th July 2010

I am trying to organise an afternoon out to Go Ape at Cannock Chase. It is open to members and their partners.

The prices are: Gorillas (18 years plus): £30 per person Baboons (10-17 years): £20 per person

If you are interested in going, the money would need to be paid up front as the full cost has to be paid at the time of booking. You can get a full refund if you cancel 48hrs before the event takes place.

I need to know if you are interested by Friday 19th March 2010 so that the date does not get booked up. You can either see me at the club on Tuesday or e-mail me (ARCinTouch or melbrown62@hotmail.co.uk), text or call me on 07769837170.

Here are some of the details off the website.

It’s not in the dictionary, but if it was, Go Ape would be described as a ‘high-wire forest adventure’. That means we build giant obstacle courses up in the trees using ladders, walkways, bridges and tunnels made of wood, rope and super-strong wire, and top it all off with the country’s best zip lines (including the longest at 426 metres – check it out on You Tube). We then kit people out with harnesses, pulleys and karabiners, give them a 30 minute safety briefing and training and let them loose into the forest canopy, free to swing through the trees. Of course, instructors are always on hand, regularly patrolling the forests (not in monkey suits unfortunately!) The result is spectacular. The Go Ape experience gets the adrenalin pumping, gets people out of their comfort zones and above all (no pun intended), it’s just great fun. Can you go ape?

Participant restrictions Minimum age - 10yrs Minimum height - 1.4m (4ft7") Maximum weight - 20.5 stones (130kg) The maximum number of participants per session is 14. Don't worry if you are going with more people; you can simply book more sessions to cater for the number of people you are going with. At Go Ape we use harnesses to make sure you're nice and safe throughout your time on the course. The maximum waist measurement of the harness is 110cm and the leg loops (which go around the top of your thighs) is 70cm.

Message from Susan Lloyd

If any ladies are interested in joining me I will be taking part in Cancer Research Race for Life on Sunday 18th July 10.30 at Weston Park. There are 2 races, 5k & 10k

I take part in memory of my Dad & my Sister & have done so every year since Sally died of endometrial cancer in 2004.

My Sister, Sally Corns, is an ex ARC member. We both joined about 8 years ago when the club was based at Manor Farm. We were members for about 2 years up until Sally was taken ill. Sally would have been celebrating her 50th birthday this year & my Dad his 75th so I am trying to get as many people as possible to take part with me in memory/celebration of them both.

Weather permitting we are hoping to have a picnic in the park after the run so bring the rest of the family along too

You can register on the Race for Life web site, www.Raceforlife.org & the entry fee is £12.99
