The 2022 London Marathon was held on Sunday 2nd October, the second year running that they changed the usual Spring date, due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Michael Mason already had a deferred place for this year's event and he was joined by Shelley Nicholls from the ballot, David Roberts, James Fanning, Lorraine Beesley and Peter Dimbleby who earned Good For Age places and Lisa Wakeman, who gained a Championship place. Charity runners were Sally Gordon and Steve McCann.

Our cheer squad was also there and as noisy as always

Our superstars:

Pete Dimbleby secured a Good For Age place in London, as on many previous occasions, running his 21st London marathon.  He was our first runner to cross the line, in 03:03:38

The Good For Age qualifying time for Pete's age group is 03;10, so we hope that he will be on the start line in 2023 for his 22nd race.

Lisa Wakeman was our second finisher, in 03:23:22.

This time is comfortably inside the Good For Age qualifying time of 03:45, so we hope to see her back in 2023!
Third to finish for ARC was Lorraine Beesley in a time of 03:47:41, once again well within the Good For Age qualifying time of 04:05.  After qualifying in 2019 Lorraine missed out in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID cancellations and red tape so it was lovely to see her do so well this year.

Our fourth, and final, sub-4 hour finisher was James Fanning, who completed the course in 03:49:54.
David Roberts completed the marathon in a time of 04:29:05

Our next finisher was Michael Mason, in a time of 04:55:56.  He completed the marathon in a rather fetching little number, which made him easy for the cheer squad to spot, despite the lack of an ARC shirt!

Sally Gordon ran this, her first marathon, for the charity Women’s Solace Aid, for whom she raised a fabulous £2605

Sally was our other sub-5-hour finisher, with an impressive time of 04:57:41

Shelley Nicholls
completed this, her first marathon, in a great time of 05:03:17.

Although she achieved a ballot place she chose to raise funds for Diamond Blackfan Anaemia Support Group Uk and exceeded her fundraising target, raising £890.

Congratulations Shelley, both on your fundraising and your run!

Stephen McCann , an experienced marathon runner, ran with the number 45666, which perhaps proved to be unlucky for him.  After a good start he encountered some difficulties after 18 miles, but managed to complete the marathon in 05:21:21 and recovered well afterwards.

Our first confirmed qualifier for London 2023 was Adam Smith, who completed the Chester Marathon on the same day as those above, in a London Championship qualifying time (also a new club marathon record) of 02:39:15.  Unlike GFA entry, which allows only a set number of qualifiers through, all championship qualifiers are guaranteed a place.

We also expect to see Philip Brayford on the start line in 2023, with his Berlin Marathon time of 03:16:22 nearly 30 minutes faster than his GFA qualifying time of 03:45.
