22 December 2019

We had 60 parkrunners on Saturday 21st December, with  38 at Walsall Arboretum and 15 at Sutton Park.  Congratulations to Adam Smith, 1st overall finisher at the Arboretum, also to Toby Oury (3rd) and Lisa Wakeman (4th lady).  Well done also to Ian Jennings and Rebecca Beale, first ARC finishers at Sutton Park.

Meanwhile, Sharon Fern and Mandy Brassington-Harris ran at Cannock Chase, Louise Berry ran at Rosliston, Kevin Attwood ran at Cannon Hill, Tony Dutton and Kat Stevenson ran at East Park, Wolverhampton and James Whitehouse ran at Babbs Mill, Solihull

Congratulations to Kevin Attwood and Daniel Day, who gained parkrun PBs this week.  Well done too, to  Toby Oury, who gained an age-grade percentage in the top 10 of his event this week.

We had 46 parkrunners on Saturday 14th December, with  28 at Walsall Arboretum.  Congratulations to Adam Smith and Lisa Wakeman, creating an ARC first with first male and female finishers, also to Mark Shaw (7th) and Daniel Day (10th).  

Meanwhile, Jason Lee, Pauline Smith, Michael Davis, Barbara Johnson, Mandy Brassington-Harris, Pat Brazier and Louise Berry ran at the special 'yellow for Stephen Sutton' Chasewater whilst Lucy Walters, Tony Baker and Victoria O'Connor completed the course at Sutton Park.

Elsewhere Rachel Antoine and Lynda Elmore ran at East Park, Wolverhampton, Rebecca Steele ran at Sandwell Valley, Sarah Baggott ran at Cannon Hill and James Whitehouse ran at Brueton.  Further afield in South Wales, Toby and Angela Oury ran at Colby and Geoff Card ran at Rogiet. 

Congratulations to Toby Oury, who took 2nd place overall at his event, in a PB time on his 100th parkrun, and to Anita Passmore, Mandy Brassington-Harris and Rebecca Steele, who also gained parkrun PBs this week.  Well done too, to Adam Smith, Geoff Card and Toby Oury, who gained age-grade percentages in the top 10 of their event this week.

We had just 29 parkrunners on Saturday 6th December, with  17 at Walsall Arboretum.  Congratulations to Michael Mason and Barbara Johnson, first ARC finishers and Barbara's 200th parkrun.  

Pauline Smith, Pamir Azami and Deborah Hartland ran at Chasewater whilst Geoff Card, Laura Kirwan, Tony Baker and Sarah-Anne Fitzsimmons completed the course at Sutton Park.

Elsewhere Mandy Brassington-Harris  gained another PB at Cannock Chase, Viki Dobbs and Laura Malsbury  ran at Kingsbury Water, James Whitehouse ran at Morcambe Prom and Richard Lodge ran at Ludlow. 

Congratulations to  Pauline Smith, who gained age-grade percentage in the top 10 of her event again this week.

Saturday also saw the second event in this season's Cross-Country league, another crucial event for our men seeking promotion.  Well done to Liam Harrold (8th), Adam Smith (12th), Toby Oury (13th), Dan Williams (21st), Mark Shaw (36th) and Gordon Walker (48th) who consolidated the club's 3rd place so far, also to Steve Blakemore and Philip Morris, for fine performances but unfortunately we had insufficient members to make up a 'B' team this time.  Well done also to our women's team of Karen Kiteley, Lorraine Beesley, Helen Beecham and Lizi Chambers, who gained 7th place overall, also to Anne Kelsall, Rossella Bigongiari, Wendy Sargeant, Abby Wright, Claire O'Brien and Judith Toase, who completed the team.  In the Masters' competition our team of Karen, Lorraine and Helen took first place out of 15 complete teams.  Well done all.

The main reason that numbers at other events were a little down was that 26 members were running in Lanzarote.  Congratulations to all finishers:

We had 54 mostly soggy parkrunners on Saturday 16th November, with 33 at Walsall Arboretum Congratulations to Adam Smith, 3rd overall finisher, also to Liam Harrold (4th overall, PB) and Lisa Wakeman (3rd lady, PB).

Toby Oury was 1st overall finisher at Sutton Park, followed by Lucy Walters, John Quinn, Geoff Card, Jane Quinn, Tony Baker and Gemma Archer.  At Chasewater, Dan Ford was first ARC finisher, followed by Pauline Smith, Michael Mason, Emma Lawton and Tim Farmer.  Lorraine Beesley was 1st lady home at Perry Hall, followed by Mandip Thandi.

We had 31 parkrunners on Saturday 9th November, with 17 at Walsall Arboretum. Congratulations to Lisa Wakeman, first ARC finisher and 3rd lady in a PB time of 20:00 minutes, gaining an age-grade % in the top 10 of the event, also to Pamir Azami, who gained our only other PB this weekend.

Laura Kirwan was the first ARC finisher at Sutton Park, , followed by Lucy Walters and Geoff Card.  At Chasewater, Dave McHugh was the first ARC finisher, followed by Garry Newman, Pauline Smith, Kay McHugh and Tony Baker.

Elsewhere, Dan Ford ran at Perry Hall, Sarah-Anne Fitzsimmons, Rebecca Steele and Mandy Brassington-Harris ran at Rosliston, James Whitehouse ran at Oxford and Richard Moore ran at Gunnersbury, West London.

Saturday also saw the first event of this season's Cross-Country League, which took place on a very wet and muddy park in Coventry.  The women's team consisted of Karen Kiteley, Helen Beecham, Wendy Sargeant, Jane Quinn, Claire O'Brien, Rossella Bigongiari, Louise Berry and Judith Toase and the men's team was Liam Harrold, Toby Oury, Adam Smith, Dan Williams, Mark Shaw, Gordon Walker, Steve Blakemore, Mark O'Rourke, Philip Morris, Simon Hudson, Marcus Nye, Les Reeves, Lawrence Hewitt and Barry Cheema.  Congratulations to Liam, Toby, Adam, Dan, Mark and Gordon, who gained the men's 'A' Team 3rd place overall, only 4 points behind the 1st and 2nd teams, also to the 'B' team of Steve, Mark, Phil, Simon, Marcus and Les, who came 5th.  The depleted women's team were happy to come 21st overall and 19th Masters out of 24 teams.   Particular 'well done' and 'thank you' to Gordon, running his first cross-country event for ARC and to Wendy, returning after an absence of many years - both contributed to their team's overall position.  Thanks to Henry Simpson and Anne Kelsall for acting as officials, also to Freddie Penrose and Sue & Steve Benzie who braved the weather to come and support both teams.

We had 48 parkrunners on Saturday 2nd November, with 21 at Walsall Arboretum. Congratulations to Adam Smith, first across the line at the Arboretum, also to Toby Oury (3rd), Liam Harrold (5th), Daniel Day (7th) and Lisa Wakeman (2nd lady). 

Other top 10 finishers this week were James Whitehouse (5th, Perry Hall), Karen Kiteley (3rd lady, Sherwood Pines), RIchard Lodge (9th, Ludlow) and Laura Kirwan (9th lady, Sutton Park).

Just 33 ARC members braved Saturdays' weather to take part in a parkrun on Saturday 26th October, with 20 at Walsall Arboretum. Congratulations to Adam Smith and Liam Harrold, 2nd and 4th across the line at the Arboretum, also to Katrina Wyke, 4th lady). 

Elsewhere Lucy Walters ran the club's only PB time to finish 8th lady at Sutton Park, also completed by Gemma Archer and Sarah-Anne Fitzsimmons. Dave McHugh, Pauline Smith and Kay Mchugh  ran at Chasewater, Rachel Antoine and Jackie Shan ran at Cannock Chase, James Whitehouse ran at Conkers, Les Reeves ran at Sandwell Valley, Richard Lodge ran at Ludlow, Nicola James ran at Shrewsbury and Laura Kirwan was 2nd lady at Royal Canal, Kilcock.

We had 52 parkrunners on Saturday 5th October, with 24 at Walsall Arboretum, 6 at Sutton Park and 10 at Chasewater. Congratulations to Adam Smith, first across the line at the Arboretum in a PB time of 16:23, breaking his own club record yet again, also to Lisa Wakeman (2nd lady), Freddie Penrose (5th place overall at Sutton Park) and Pauline Smith (2nd lady at Chasewater).  First ARC lady at Sutton Park was Lucy Walters. 

Elsewhere Jo Stephens and Anna Davies were 5th and 9th lady respectively at Sandwell Valley, Michael Mason ran at Colwick, Nottingham, Dave & Kay McHugh ran at Bushy and James Whitehouse ran at Queen's Domain, Tasmania.  Six members ran at Poole, with Liam Harrold coming in 6th and Toby Oury 9th, both in a PB time, accompanied by Dan Williams, Mark Shaw, Steve Blakemore and Brett Antill.

The weekend of 13-14th July saw three club records broken, a string of top 10 finishers in both parkrun and other events and one member becoming an Ironman.

We had 37 parkrunners on Saturday 1st June, with 23 at Walsall Arboretum and 6 at Sutton Park.Congratulations to Liam Harrold, who was 2nd finisher overall at Nick Ford and Katrina Wyke, first ARC man and woman at Sutton Park.  Elsewhere, Diane Hammond ran at Kingsbury Water Park, Sharon Fern ran at Cannock Chase, Rachel Antoine ran at Dudley, Terry and Gill Hastings ran at Shrewsbury, Richard Lodge ran at Ludlow, Henry Simpson ran at Newborough Forest, Anglesey and Lisa Wakeman was 4th lady to finish at Poole.  Well done to Sharon Fern, who gained a new parkrun PB this weekend: and to Liam Harrold and John Pearce, who gained an age category rating in the top 10 of their event.  Many thanks to all club members who volunteered in any capacity this week.

Thank you, and well done, to all who volunteered or ran in the Chasewater parkrun test event on Monday 3rd.  Not only did ARC provide a substantial proportion of volunteers but we also had the first man and woman to start - Steve Blakemore and Karen Kiteley.  Overall feedback was good and this promises to be another popular venue.
