With many parkruns, including Walsall Arboretum, cancelled because of ice, ARC had 25 intrepid parkrunners and walkers on Saturday November 23, with 6 at Sutton Park, 8 at Chasewater and 1 at Brunswick Park.

Some of our members like to find out-of-the ordinary races and challenges. One such is the annual Escape From Meriden, where entrants leave Meriden (supposedly the centre of England) at midnight and have up to 24 hours to get as far away as the crow flies, in any direction and by any route (on foot!) they choose. The nature of the challenge means that there are no marshals, no aid stations and no transport back! Huge congratulations to Harshad Patel, whose result of 74.7k took him as far as Milton Keynes, after a run of 53.2 miles, earning himself a silver medal.

Saturday 9th saw the start of the 2024-5 season for Cross Country Leagues. Both men and women had a fantastic turnout, with good results:

Midland Women's Cross Country League (6k): Our A Team of Sarah Close (26:44), Laura Crick (27:21), Claire Crook (28:00) and Helen Beecham (28:11) came in overall 8th place, whilst our Masters' team of Sarah, Claire and Helen came in 5th place. Our other runners were: Louise Booker (28:26), Lorraine Beesley (30:48), Emma Shaw (31:47), Shelley Nicholls (33:35), Sally Gordon (34:46), Rebecca Grimshaw (34:50), Wendy Sargeant (35:26), Catherine Birkbeck (35:27), Abigail Wright (36:40), Angela Oury (37:10), Rachel Antoine (37:44), Barbara Johnson (38:12), Maria Taylor (38:20), Melissa Crowley (40:25), Lynda Elmore(45:13) and Jo Yarnall (45:13)
Birmingham & District (men's) League (10k): our A Team of Adam Smith (35:18), Liam Harrold (36:08), Quentin Oury (36:47), Daniel Williams (39:52), Tom Archer (42:09) and Neil Day (42:19) came in overall 13th place, whilst our B Team of Luke White (42:30), Mark Shaw (42:33), Pete Dimbleby (42:49), Lee Harris (43:24), Harshad Patel (43:46) and Chris Moon (44:23) came in 10th place. Mark O'Rourke (46:31), Duncan Gould (47:22), Steven Grice (49:04) and Lee Sprules (63:41) completed our team. In the Masters competition our A team of Adam, Liam, Quentin and Dan came 5th and our B team of Tom, Neil, Mark and Pete came 8th.

Aldridge Running Club was plunged into a state of disbelief and shock following the sudden and unexpected death of our beloved Club Secretary and long serving member Steve Benzie. Our love and thoughts remain with Sue. Steve was often the first person to welcome new members and always took time to talk to as many people as possible. He was a tireless supporter of club events, including cross-country races, and will be sadly missed. Goodbye Steve, you've made a lasting impression on so many.

The ECCA National Cross Country Championships, due to take place at Weston Park on Saturday 24th were sadly cancelled/postponed at the last minute.

On Tuesday 20th we held a foodbank donation to supplement that collected at parkrun the previous Saturday. A total of 52.75kg of food, 11.20kg of non-food items and a £10 cash donation were delivered to the Thomas Project (part of the Black Country Foodbank). Many thanks to all members who contributed, especially to Karen Waple for co-ordinating this.

ARC had a massive 74 parkrunners and walkers on Saturday January 20, with 24 at Walsall Arboretum, 5 at Sutton Park, 7 at Chasewater, 11 at Brunswick Park and 5 at Beacon, Lichfield.

With the disappointing last-minute cancellation of Edbaston Reservoir, scheduled as a Grand Prix race, some members went to Cannon Hill, whilst others either just made it back to 'home' and some unfortunately were not able to make a parkrun in time. Battlestead Croft Parkrun, Tatenhill, Burton on Trent on Saturday 3 February is the designated replacement for our club GP.

Saturday 13th also saw the third Cross Country League event of the season, with the men at Arrow Valley and the Women closer to home at Pelsall Common. Congratulations to all runners and many thanks to those non-runners who came to support:

The Men's A Team of Bruce Fanshawe (10th), Toby Oury (20th), Liam Harrold (39th), Quentin Oury (55th), Stephen Marshall (84th) and Luke White (89th) secured 9th place for the club, whilst their B Team of Lee Harris (97th), Ryan Noon (107), Mike Morley (115), Neil Day (122), Stewart Jones (131) and Neil Brown (141) came in 6th place. Pete Dimbleby (154), Harshad Patel (158), Phil Brayford (164), David Roberts (173), Martin Wall (177), Stephen Grice (201) and Mark Johnson (206) completed our team. Our Masters A Team, consisting of Toby, Lee, Mike and Neil Day came in 5th place, whilst our Masters B Team of Stewart, Neil Brown, Pete and Harshad also finished in 5th place.
