ARCHIVE OF WEEKLY UPDATES - 2022

Week Ending May 8

Notable club achievements began early in the week beginning 2 May with Ron's Retro Handicap taking place during the club night on Tuesday 3rd. Congratulations go to Rachael Jones, who was the first finisher, with Toby Oury clocking the fastest time. The overall leaders are currently Gemma Archer, Sally Gordon and Shelley Nicholls. Usually a club favourite and part of our Grand Prix, the DK10k took place on Wednesday 4th. Congratulations to Adam Smith (00:34:07, 6th place), Alex Dicken (00:36:52), Lee Harris (00:37:36, 1st MV45 and new club MV45 10k record), Michael Morley (00:38:03, 1st MV55) and Kevin Attwood (00:50:47).

ARC had 49 parkrunners on Saturday May 7, with 34 runners and 43 volunteers at Walsall Arboretum for our tribute to Ron Reynolds on the first anniversary of his passing.

  • Stratford Sprint Triathlon: Helen Hirst (bike) and Jane Quinn (run) joined up with ex-ARC member Carol Watson (swim) to complete the event in 01:27:47, coming 2nd in the female relay event.

Week Ending May 1

As from Sunday 1st May, Tony Baker takes over from Sue Benzie as club Chair, until the next AGM in the Autumn. We give huge thanks and appreciation for all that Sue has done for the club in her 2.5 years as Chair, not least keeping us all motivated during lockdowns and agreeing to continue for a further 6 months. We are also very grateful to Tony for stepping up to look after things for the remainder of the year, during which time Jo Yarnall will be acting as Vice-Chair.

ARC had

Despite a last minute cancellation of Walsall Arboretum parkrun due to works on the course ARC had 41 parkrunners on Saturday April 23, with 13 at Chasewater, 7 at Sutton Park and 7 at Beacon.

Week Ending April 10

Tuesday 5th saw the first of the 2022 Handicap races.  Congratulations to Sally Gordon, who won this race, also to Toby Oury, who ran the fastest time before handicaps were applied.  The full list of results can be found here, with absolute times here.  The next race will be the Ron's Retro edition on May 3rd and this will be followed by a social where members are invited to bring some food to share.

The big event for the club over the weekend was most definitely the Midland 12- and 6-stage road relays in Sutton Park on Saturday 26th.  These ended with ARC's men's team qualifying for the National Championships, which will be held on Saturday 9th April.  This is the first time we have qualified for this event, no mean feat when it required a team of 12.  Well done to all runners and to the team managers.  Our results:
