The following was written before the challenge began. There have been a few tweaks to the route since then - the updated routes can be found on the links above.
The JOGLE route I have planned is over 28 days beginning on Monday 26th August and hopefully all being well finishing on Sunday 22nd September. The route should see me run just over 1000 miles. I have always been intrigued by JOGLE and after listening to Sean Conway at the National Running Show at the NEC in January 2018 about his JOGLE experience, I decided to think about attempting it. In about July 2018 I made the decision that I was going to try and do it. I will be running it solo but will via social media be asking runners along the route to come and join me for 1 mile or the whole day if they wish to.
I am fundraising for a Walsall charity called Midlands Langar Seva Society. A charity started in 2013 by 2 Sikh brothers to help the homeless and those in society less well off than us. Across the UK and internationally, they organize Langar – free kitchen – which in Sikhism is providing vegetarian food to anyone regardless of social standing, religion, age etc. They go out every evening in many towns and cities providing food to those in need, regularly providing over 20,000 meals a week.
There are more details and a better summary on their website
I am looking to raise at least £5000 for them. You can see my progress towards this goal and contribute by visiting my donations page
Along the route I will be doing a parkrun on each Saturday. Additionally, I will be doing my 10th Great North Run along the way as well as the Worcester 10K.
In 2014 I ran 6 full and 14 half marathons for Macmillan’s in 8 months raising just under £4000. In 2017 I ran 10 10K’s, 10 half marathons, 10 full marathons and 1 24-hour race for the Stroke Association in 8 months raising £17k. So the question was how to follow those 2 challenges and push myself even harder. JOGLE!!
On Sat 14th Sept I will be doing my home parkrun at Walsall Arboretum before running to Worcester. On the 15th I will run the 10k and and it would be great to see an ARC cheer squad and running team there! There is also a half marathon on the same day for those looking to do a longer distance. Once I’ve done the 10K I will be running onto Stroud!
